Alison W. Brett, Ph.D.

  personal statement

"I believe that change occurs when people become aware of the choices they have and feel empowered to act on them. Psychotherapy with me is usually a process of clarifying the essential conflicts that underlie recurrent sources of frustration, anxiety, or depression, and developing a new, broader perspective on the situation. When people are aware of their feelings in the moment, they have an opportunity to change through responding differently than they have in the past. In addition, when people have greater awareness of themselves, including understanding the neurological basics of their behavior, they can develop more adaptive coping and interpersonal skills."
