"My mission as a physician and
psychiatrist is to provide compassionate, ethical state of the
art medical care to my patients. My goals have always been to my
patients, their families, medical specialists and therapists who
refer their patients to me for diagnosis and treatment, to
maintain the confidentiality of my patients, to help my patients
in understanding the risks and benefits of any treatment I
recommend as well as the alternatives to those. I insure my
availability to my patients as well as providing appropriate
backup when I am away from the office. Finally, to advocate for
patients with psychiatric disabilities in the community."
Dr. Greenspan is a Diplomate of
the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, recertified in
2006. He has been listed in the Chicago Magazine 2001 edition of
Top Doctors in Chicago, the Castle Connolly 1999 through 2004
editions of Top Doctors in Chicago, and the 2008 edition of
Consumer’s Research Council of American Guide to American’s Top
Psychiatrists. He is a recipient of the National Leadership
Award and Honorary Co–Chairman of the Physician's Advisory Board
for 2001 and 2002 in recognition of his assistance and guidance
in the area of health care reform.
Dr. Greenspan completed his training in Psychiatry at
Northwestern University where he was Chief Resident. Previous to
this he obtained his Doctor of Medicine from the Finch
University of Health Sciences/the Chicago Medical School. Dr.
Greenspan served for 11 years as the Medical Director of
Inpatient Psychiatry and, in the year 2000, as the Medical
Director of Consultation–Liaison Psychiatry at Highland Park
Hospital. During his medical directorships he established a
leadership role in the area of hospital–wide Performance
Improvement. Dr. Greenspan is on staff at Lake Forest Hospital.
He has served as the psychiatric consultant to the Whitehall in
Deerfield and currently serves as the psychiatric consultant to
the North Shore Senior Center and Sedgebrook in Lincolnshire.
Dr. Greenspan has published articles on
neuropsychiatric brain function as well as physician training.
He has given over forty presentations to the community at large,
nursing, social service and medical groups and has appeared as a
guest on local cable television, on CLTV and on Chicago radio.
His areas of interest are geriatric psychiatry and the diagnosis
and treatment of anxiety and mood disorders. He is an advocate
for substantial health care reform. Dr. Greenspan is married,
has one child and two stepchildren.
Dr. Greenspan has experience
treating the following areas: alcoholism, anxiety disorders, Alzheimer's disease, behavior disorders, bereavement/grief,
bipolar disorder/chronic mental illness, dementia, depression,
developmental disorders, geriatric issues, obsessive–compulsive
disorders, post–partum depression, psychosis, seniors' issues,
and sleep dysfunction.
Dr. Greenspan provides
cognitive–behavioral therapy, competency evaluations, individual
psychotherapy, psychiatric evaluations, and medication
management/psychopharmacology. Dr. Greenspan works with adults,
adolescents, and seniors.
